For Nuit Blanche 2006, Surasi Kusolwong proposes Beer Lamp, an installation mixing cars, a beer bar, a dance floor, a workshop and video instalation.
Internationally acclaimed artist Surasi Kusolwong was born in Thailand in 1965, where he is still living and working today. His installations, sculptures and projects for public space form an almost encyclopaedic inventory of the working strategies of the young generation of artists. Kusolwong has extended the conventional understanding of a work of art by seeking to combine the rich colourful beauty of industrial products (above all Far Eastern everyday items made of plastic) with the aesthetics of Far Eastern art, in imitation of contemporary Western modernism. In doing so, he establishes a clear link between commercial activities 'such as buying and selling products and offering one's services' and an Asian philosophy of life. Necmi Sönmez
Surasi Kusolwong's performance/installation work is truly interactive, engaging audiences in exchanges that highlight the relationship between people, art and consumerism.
